Frequently Asked Questions

Have Questions?

It’s common to feel unsure about how the NDIS works or what kind of support is available.
These are some of the questions people often ask when they’re getting started with Stepwise.
If you need more information, Sonia is always happy to explain things clearly and help you understand your options.

1. What does a Support Coordinator do?
A Support Coordinator helps you make the most of your NDIS plan. They connect you with services, explain how your funding works, and help your supports work well together.

2. What is Specialist Support Coordination?
Specialist Support Coordination is for people who have more complex situations. It involves extra help to manage risks, solve problems, and keep your supports stable when things get tricky.

3. Who can get Support Coordination or Specialist Support Coordination?
If your NDIS plan includes funding for these supports, you’re eligible. This is usually added when your situation is more complex or you need extra help managing your plan.

4. How do I get these supports added to my plan?
You can ask for Support Coordination or Specialist Support Coordination at your next plan review or planning meeting. Sonia can help you understand how to explain your needs and prepare for that conversation.

5. How do I get started with Stepwise?
Contact Sonia to talk about your situation and the kind of support you need. She’ll listen, answer your questions, and guide you through what happens next.

6. How is Support Coordination paid for?
It’s funded through your NDIS plan under Capacity Building Supports. If you’re unsure whether you have this funding, Sonia can help you check.

7. Do I need to pay anything myself?
Usually no. If your plan includes Support Coordination or Specialist Support Coordination, the cost comes directly from your plan.

8. How will we communicate?
You can choose what works best for you - phone, video, email, or in-person meetings. Sonia aims to be flexible and responsive to your needs.

9. What is Sonia’s approach?
Sonia’s approach is calm, practical, and person-centred. She takes time to understand what matters most to you and helps make the NDIS feel less stressful and more useful.

10. Where does Stepwise offer support?
Sonia is based in Perth and works with participants across the Perth metro area. She can also meet online for people who live further away.

11. Can you work with my current therapists or support workers?
Yes. Sonia can coordinate with your existing team so everyone is on the same page and working toward your goals.

12. What if I want to change or stop services?
You’re always in control. If you need to pause or end services, Sonia will make sure it’s handled smoothly and that you know what your options are.
